About Michelle Ellis

As an “intuitive artist” most of my abstract paintings are created from instinct, without reference material or consideration of the final outcome. I paint intuitively using energetic, spontaneous brushstrokes, building up and blending thin layers of paint, mostly on textured canvases. The process is visceral, emotional and all consuming. My inspiration is drawn from nature’s kaleidoscope of patterns, colors and forms. I am drawn to natural elements such as stone, cement, rock, rust, and other natural elements. I feel with color and express myself through texture, color, and a variety of mediums.  When painting I allow my creativity to take me to new heights using mixed media including the introduction of wire, metal, and rust into some paintings, while staying true to my use of bold colors, textured canvases, and the occasional use of copper or silver leaf, or metallic accents.

Currently I am the Resident Artist at restoration Vineyards in Palisade, Colorado.  Previously, I was the Resident Artist at Brecon Estate Winery in Paso Robles, CA, from May 2014 - August 2020.  I've participated in "Art After Dark" and "First Friday" events in San Luis Obispo, CA, the annual ArtsObispo Open Studio Tour, monthly exhibits at Gallery Los Olivos-Guild Room, in Los Olivos, CA, and at Art Center Morro Bay, in Morro Bay, CA.

Through exhibiting art at Gallery Los Olivos-Guild Room I've earned multiple awards including “Judge’s Awards” and “People’s Choice” Awards, and was selected as the featured Artist of the Month through the Artist Guild of the Santa Ynez Valley and featured Guest Artist at Pavlov Contemporary Art Gallery in Solvang.

I specialize in one-of-a-kind commissioned artwork for clients across the United States.
